I can’t believe how the raspberry canes have grown and multiplied! The patch was very neat, little paths between double rows of quite well organised raspberries, easy to walk between them.
Not any more. It must be all the mulch the canes had over the winter and in the spring.
Every year I think that I was too hard pruning them – as a rule I cut out the canes that have fruited and just leave perhaps two new ones on each plant. And each year I think that it’ll be a miracle if I have any fruit – and each year I have. Loads of fruit.
The canes are quite mixed, early ones and late ones – they are the majority.
I have harvested the first bowl of the early raspberries today, some of the golden ones were ready. All of them were very tasty and made a very nice fruit salad with strawberries and an apple.
