THE SHEPHERD’S LIFE
A Tale of the Lake District

The Shepherd's Life

You don’t have to know the Lake District in order to enoy this book, but I have the pleasure and privilege to know the very area James Rebanks writes about. I’ve visited it countless times, as our son and his wife live there. To read this book is an undiluted pleasure – you can feel his love for the land, for his family and, last but not least, for the Herdwicks. To me, just to hear the name brings to mind these distinctive sheep and it takes me straight away to the Lakes.

Whatever time of year, any weather, I love it. This book is a great tribute to the place and the people. Mustn’t forget the dogs, the work of the shepherd would be so much more difficult without them. They are his right hand.
