Thank you, Ian Rankin, for bringing Rebus back, even though as a DS instead of his old rank of DI.

Rebus’s old team had their methods of investigation, not always above board and also – there was this “shadow bible”. Crimes were committed and were hidden – but perhaps not for long now.

DS Rebus is determined to clear it all up, and the book is the start of things to come (perhaps) for him and Ian Rankin.
